Dopo i fatti narrati in Breaking Bad, Saul Goodman lavora sotto falsa identità come responsabile pasticciere nel punto Cinnabon di un centro commerciale a Omaha, Nebraska. Tormentato dal rischio di essere riconosciuto, trascorre una vita tranquilla, passando le serate a guardare le sue vecchie pubblicità registrate in videocassetta, che gli rievocano i tempi passati. L'azione principale si svolge nel passato, prima ancora degli eventi di Breaking Bad, quando Saul usava il suo vero nome, James "Jimmy" McGill, e cercava in tutti i modi di affermarsi come avvocato.
