DESCRIPTION
Summer, 2008: John McCain secures the nomination, but polls behind Barack Obama. Strategist Steve Schmidt suggests a game changer: picking a conservative female with media savvy, unknown Alaska governor Sarah Palin, as vice president. She's an immediate hit and a quick study - the gap closes. Then, Tina Fey's impersonation, a raft of criticism, and missing her family send Palin into a near-catatonic state: she doesn't prepare for her Katie Couric interview and bombs. Schmidt searches for an answer: don't expect her to learn the issues, but give her a script. Palin does well in the debate with Biden; she finds her voice, goes off script, and goes rogue. A mistake?

Non di fantasia, come ne 'le idi di marzo', ma in quelle vere e più crudeli
che videro John McCain contrapporsi a Barack Obama e dove, come partner nella corsa,
scelse la discussa Sarah Palin. Un film che non annoia e che riesce ad avvincere
malgrado se ne conosca già la fine. Un bravo Ed Harris interpreta lo stanco John McCain,
ma la scena è dominata dal bravissimo Woody Harrelson ('The walker', 'The messenger'),
capo dello staff repubblicano, e dalla strepitosa Julianne Moore che ci propone
una Sarah Palin perfetta: modi, aspetto, gesti e stupore sono quelli
della vera (ex) governatrice dell'Alaska. La vicenda parte dalle motivazioni che spinsero
McCain e i suoi consulenti all'infausta scelta della Palin per poi seguire, passo passo,
gli eventi, le parole e le problematiche di tutta la crudele e stressante campagna elettorale.
Sullo sfondo di tanta smarrita umanità, Barack Obama, sempre più irraggiungibile,
sempre più 'dio greco', fino alla conclusione di una storia già scritta.
Un film avvincente, ben recitato e complesso consigliato a chiunque ami il genere.
Inquietanti le analogie caratteriali ed espressive della Palin con certi nostri 'politici' nazionali.
