Far Cry Primal for PC is a first-person action game and a full-scale spin-off of sandbox series Far Cry, created in 2004 year by Crytek studio, later known from Crysis franchise. From the second part of the series, Far Cry 2, the franchise is in hands of Ubisoft Montreal, which successively developed the best features of the original. Aside from full-scale Far Cry’s, from time to time we received side productions, like Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, set in science-fiction world. Similarly the described title, which strands out from main series and takes us back in completely new, prehistoric settings.
Like all titles of the series, Far Cry Primal was developed by Ubisoft’s canadian subsidiary, known from bestselling Assassin’s Creed.
Plot
Far Cry Primal brings players to stone age, around 12 thousand years B.C, and takes place in beautiful, but deadly fictional land of Oros. I was shaped thousand years earlier by withdrawing ice sheet after last ice age, due to which it offers varied landscapes – from green forests to swamps and snow-covered areas.
We take role of prehistoric hunter named Takkar, which wandered with his group on the grounds of the different tribe, resulting in the slaughter of Takkar’s people, with our protagonist as the sole survivor. From this moment, the hero is on his own, in land inhabited by hostile locals and dangerous species of fauna. Since the lone hunter is an alluring snack for every predator, the basic task for Takkar is forming a new tribe, ensure its safety and provide conditions for development.
Gameplay
In terms of game mechanics, Far Cry Primal on PC / Windows offers all characteristics of its predecessors, though due to different setting, each of these features may be a little different. The game takes place in vast open world, in which awaits not only missions connected to the plot, but also a lot of optional quests and challenges, hostile bridgeheads to retake, hidden collectibles and dangerous animals, for which we must hunt. Similarly to previous Far Cry’s, the developers concentrated mainly on providing the complete freedom in player’s actions and many alternative ways of completing missions. Thanks to that, the game will offer something for fans of pure action, as well as for those who prefer more stealthy approach and more sublime strategies.
In comparison to previous entries in the series, Far Cry Primal emphasizes the meaning of crafting system. That because in prehistoric settings, we are forced to create every weapon and other useful accessories from wide variety of materials, such as different kind of stones or bones and skins of animals. Players receive various maces, spears, bows, knives and other primitive weaponry, and fire is an extremely important part of gameplay, having key role not only in surviving, but also providing many tactical options (e.g. scaring off wild animals, so they run at the hostile tribe). The lack of vehicles is compensated by the possibility of riding various species of animals, allowing for travelling the land of Oros much faster and effectively than on foot.
Game modes
Unlike previous parts of the series, which offered varied multiplayer options (such as cooperation), Far Cry Primal won’t offer any multiplayer and is developed as entirely “single player experience”.
Technicalities
Released for PC / Windows Far Cry Primal was developed on original and endlessly expanded Dunia Engine, used in, for example, Far Cry 4. Because of the fact that the discussed production is the first part developed with PC and eight generation of consoles in mind, the visuals well slightly enhanced.
