Note : A bit of modern independent British-Irish horror here, a minimalist take on what occultism and summoning could actually realistically look like if it existed in the modern world. It's mostly a character piece focused on two people, and has a hypnotic, repetitive rhythm that I found quite enchanting. It's also very nicely shot, with lush interiors and the few exteriors almost oppressively painting-like. A neat little meditation on revenge, determination, and personal growth packaged in a supernatural horror story.
A woman rents a house in rural Wales for a year, and brings a short-tempered, damaged occultist there to perform a ritual. Ostensibly, she wants to contact her dead son, but as they seal the whole house in a magic circle and begin a months-long purification and summoning, it turns out her motivations might not be what they seem, which brings danger both to her and her partner, who also seems to have his own demons to content with.
As usual with new films, this is a near perfect BluRay of a digitally shot film, completely clean, very little grain, perfect contrast and color, and the 5.1 track sounds great too. It's a bit of a shame there's no commentary track, but there are subtitles in English and Spanish.
