Dustwind is a tactic post-apocalyptic role-playing game released on PC. The title was developed by Dustwind Studios, an independent team founded by the fans of Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel. The mentioned game was an inspiration for the creators while they worked on Dustwind.
Plot
Dustwind for PC takes place in year 2075, twenty five years after the disaster known as The Awakening happened. It was a day when the artificial intelligence that controlled the mechanical armies of humanity turned against its creators and started the extermination of Homo Sapiens. The machines lost the war, but the cost of the victory was great. Ninety percent of Earth’s population was killed and most of the infrastructure was destroyed. Communication between continents was destroyed as well.
The game takes place on the territories of the devastated Europe. Countless small factions were created in place of fallen governments. They fight each other for the remaining resources and goods. At the same time the side effects of the previously used weapon of mass destruction become more perceptible and various mutations become a real problem for the survivors. Furthermore, not all robots were destroyed – without the leadership of a powerful AI, they returned to their basic functions and focus only on maintaining their condition.
Mechanics
Dustwind for PC is a tactical multiplayer-focused RPG. The game is played in real time and among the available modes there is cooperation and a few PvP modes. The players can choose from large variety of playable factions, among which there are groups of humans, mutant squads and robots.
The game is focused on the tactical aspect of battles. Winning requires developing clever plans that enable the player to outsmart his competitors. One must also take advantage of special skills, shape of terrain and the presence of various obstacles and covers.
